This American running legend has inspired thousands of runners throughout her illustrious career. She won the California state championships in high school (440 & 880 yards), ran the Olympic Trials in 1976 at age 19, ran in the 1984 Olympics (800 - 6th, 1500 - 8th), and finished 7th in the 1500 meters at the 1995 World Championships at age 38. As a masters runner in 1997, Ruth set American track records in the 800 (2:03.95), 1000 (2:40.42), 1500 (4:08.69) and 5000 (16:26). Her 16:06 5K at the Freihofer's Run for Women and her 26:19 at the Bastille Day 8K are both world records. She was Runner's World Masters Runner of the Year for 1997. An energetic, out-going and fun person, Ruth lives and trains in Canyon Lake, CA with her husband Tom and their son Michael.
